Wonderful long but not difficult hike in a beautiful area of The Cohutta.
The quickest access to Jacks River Falls. The Forest Service has permanently banned camping at the sites surrounding the falls during Summer months due to selfish, low-rent people treating the place like garbage. Please differentiate yourselves.
It takes about an hour to drive here from the Ocoee Whitewater center, depending on how fast you drive. Good parking area, well-marked trailhead and trails.
Been coming here for 35 years and now my kids say it's the highlight hike of their summer every year. The drive is long and takes about an hour to get to the trail head on gravel forestry roads once you leave the highway. However, the hike itself is only about 3 miles on a logging road. Just keep going until you hit the river and then cut downstream until you start to see waterfalls and a pool. There are 2 waterfalls, the first being about 8 feet and the second about 20 feet; the pool lies between the two. Find a local and they can show you the safe spots to cliff jump or even jump off of the lower falls into the foam. Without a local, don't try it as too many rocks lay beneath the water invisible to the naked eye above the rapids. It's a beautiful spot so please go explore.
